It's less about sensitive information, and more about your reputation. If you're going to get into politics, the people here need to feel like they can understand you, or at least the persona you'll be using to campaign. The idea of someone simply being in a regular romantic relationship with another is much easier for the average person to swallow than the concept of a potential member of their Parliament being guided by an alien machine.
